Order of Malta Hosts TPNRD Conference in Rome

The Transatlantic Policy Network on Religion & Diplomacy (TPNRD) gathered in Rome from 15 to 17 June for a meeting hosted by the Sovereign Order of Malta. The conference brought together participants from Austria, Canada, the EEAS, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Order of Malta. We were also joined by the co-chairs of the TPNRD Advisory Council. The meeting was opened by the introductory remarks of the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Italian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The conference program provided opportunity to learn more about the global diplomatic and humanitarian work of the Order of Malta, discuss new TPNRD-commissioned policy reports, meet with key officials at the Vatican, and to engage with a wide range of religious leaders and other civil society actors based in Rome. Groups represented at the conference’s networking events included the Islamic Cultural Centre in Rome, Orthodox Archdioceses of Italy, Waldensian Evangelical Church, Sant’Egidio Community, the Anglican Centre in Rome, and the Buddhist Fo Guang Shan and Tzu Chi Foundation.
