Jos Douma retired in September 2022 from The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served most recently as the Special Envoy for Religion and Belief. In this video interview with TPNRD director Judd Birdsall, Douma reflects on his diplomatic career and shares lessons learned from his time as special envoy.
Jos Douma served as the first ever Netherlands’ Special Envoy for Religion and Belief from 2019 to 2022. He previously served as the Dutch ambassador to Georgia and Armenia from September 2015. Previous postings include ambassadorships in Tehran and Ljubljana and deputy Head of Mission in Moscow. Ambassador Douma served briefly as a Chargé d’Affaires to the Holy See in 2010 and 2011. His career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs started in 1980.
